The grooming industry has come a long way, as a whole, over the past few years, because more and more brands are beginning to understand and incorporate practices to become environmentally friendly. Not too long ago, if a brand slapped "eco-friendly" or "sustainable" on its products, many consumers took them for their word. Now, in an age where we are starting to fall into a more unified belief on how to preserve our planet, these types of products have to be ready to prove their claims.

And let's be clear, asking for more information isn't a bad thing. In fact, brands conveying why these products are sustainable benefit us all. The more transparency a brand takes on, the more consumers will see the true value in both the product itself as well as the greater impact the company is having on the world. Here are some trusted eco-friendly, sustainable brands and a few grooming products to check out as we approach this Earth Day and beyond.

Brickell Revitalizing Anti-Aging Cream For Men

If you’re lying awake at night worried about our environment (you should be), this may be just the product for you. On the other hand, even if you’re not, you’re not getting any younger. Brickell incorporates powerful natural ingredients to help your face’s muscles contract, tightening the skin.

It also incorporates a nutrient found in superfoods like spinach and kale, which reduces age spots and helps clear up skin pigmentation issues. Hyaluronic acid makes for an ultimate moisturizer, minimizing lines and wrinkles. Wash your face and massage the cream in before bedtime.

OLAS Bamboo Toothbrush

Yeah, yeah. We know you’re "recycling" those plastic toothbrushes by stashing them under the kitchen sink for the odd scrubbing job. But if you’re replacing your brush every two to three months, you’ll end up with quite a supply. Grab a box of these bamboo brushes, and know they are biodegradable and sustainable, and they look pretty impressive on your bathroom sink.

From replacing trees with bamboo and sugarcane to practicing cruelty-free manufacturing with zero harmful chemicals, the company makes a conscious effort to make every little detail count when it comes to creating eco-friendly products. We specifically like this soothing aloe vera gel, as it’s fragrance-free, paraben-free, and vegan-friendly.

From LastObject, LastSwab is a sustainable alternative that substitutes the equivalent of 1,000 traditional cotton swabs. Modicum Birch Tree Water Spritz

Modicum’s spritz notably helps replenish skin cells with its mixture of birch water and hyaluronic acid. It also promotes the production of collagen and elastin to keep skin looking young and fresh. Red algae functions as an antioxidant, protecting against UV light, blue light, and pollution in general.

Spritz it on clean skin before applying a serum or moisturizer, but carry it around during the day, especially as temperatures are warming up, for a refreshing boost any time. (It’s also great for long flights, with their drying, recycled cabin atmospheres.)

The best part about buying grooming products from brands that are environmentally sustainable, aside from them being good for our earth, is that a lot of times, they end up being better products for you as well. That's a win-win for everyone, including Mother Nature.

Electric shaver vs. razor: Which is better for your face?
An answer to the age old question of which shave method is better
Bald man shaving face over sink

Whether you are the kind of guy who likes to rock the clean shaven look while you conquer Wall Street in a suit, or you are the kind of guy that likes to sport the long and thick mane of a beard while you work outdoors, you have to shave your face. Shaving all over or simply shaping your beard means you are involved in the age-old question of electric shaver vs razor. Of course, which you choose has a lot to do with your lifestyle.

Just like trying to decide what the best shoes are for you, or electing to dive into what the best suits are for you, it all comes down to the kind of lifestyle you lead. If you are an outdoorsman, you have very specific needs for your shave routine. It needs to be fast and portable. If you are a man with a love of luxury, then you may love to take your time with a solid routine. That may even be the kind of self-care you need to center yourself in the morning.

Dr. Squatch might be famous for their bar soaps, but their new shower gel is perfect for anyone who prefers a body wash.
A collection of Dr. Squatch shower gels

Most guys probably already know the brand Dr. Squatch. If you go to the men’s aisle you’ll see their deodorants, face washes, and most notably, their bar soaps, which are famous for having tie-ins with big franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the MCU. Surprisingly, one thing Dr. Squatch didn’t have until now is a shower gel. Their new body wash collection launched on September 13 and comes in four scents: Coconut Castaway, Fresh Falls, Pine Tar, and Wood Barrel Bourbon.

The Manual was able to try out one of their shower gels before its launch, and after showering with their wood barrel bourbon body wash for over a week now, here are my thoughts.
