Been missing that New York state of mind since leaving the city? Bright lights, big energy, and that constant, charismatic buzz. You might not be able to jet over to the city whenever the mood hits, but thanks to a new series of ambient soundscapes from Breather, you can bring its charms back into your space.
Since 2013, Breather has been focused on providing creative workspaces throughout the world, and now they are bringing their open, innovative design to a new medium. Sounds of New York is a series of audio workspaces, designed to transform you to one of 26 areas of the city. The soundscapes range from bustling to laid back, with pleasant little surprises tucked in to each, and you can listen to them all for free online.
With audio curated from restaurants, bars, parks, squares, and everywhere in between, Sounds of New York will transport you back to the city that never sleeps with layered and varied tributes to each neighborhood. Harlem is a warm blend of quiet café sounds and passing bits of casual conversation backed by the light buzz of smooth jazz. The East Village is filled with the sounds of sipping cocktails on a city evening, the comfortable creak of weathered floors underfoot and the meandering interjection of light string music and passing traffic. Other soundscapes like NoHo and Union Square layer a varied sprinkling of nearby music with the bustle of vibrant markets and classic New York delis, with bursts of pure energy like inviting dance music and the flashing sounds of people taking pictures. Other neighborhoods, like Flatiron, are wide open soundscapes, alight with the chirping of birds and occasionally popping with the crunch of sticks underfoot or pumped up with swells of delightful street percussion.
Whatever your preferred flavor of the Big Apple, the delicate layering of hustle and bustle in Breather’s Sounds of New York series is sure to quench the craving.
