What new bourbon are we pumped about? Which hiking trail are we exploring? Why is the next supercar so cool? The Manual is dedicated to helping men live a more engaged life. Each week, our editors and guests get together for a round-table discussion about what’s new, exciting, and unique in the men’s lifestyle world. So pop open your favorite brew, step into your man cave, and start streaming. Shout out to Portland-based No Kind of Rider for our intro/exit music.
This week on Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The Manual Podcast, the round table talks turkey–specifically Thanksgiving turkey. With the holiday fast approaching, our guys got together to discuss the finer points of deep frying safety, turkey alternatives, while also “inventing” two new cocktails.
As always, host Greg Nibler keeps Chase, Jake, and Sam on topic, the first of which is a quick recap of the guys’ favorite and least-favorite Thanksgiving dishes. From the highs of stuffing and cheesy potatoes to the lows of Waldorf salad and rutabaga.
Next up is a topic of import this Thanksgiving: safety when deep frying a turkey. Chase first offers some terrifying stats on deep frying dangers and then offers his advice such as: don’t do it indoors, don’t overfill your frying pot, and always turn off your propane burner when adding or removing the turkey.
The guys follow up with a few alternatives to roast turkey, including other bird options (like goose, tur-duck-en, and duck), honey-glazed hams, and going out for Chinese food.
The podcast is rounded out with Sam educating the guys about Thanksgiving cocktails. Sam suggests going with Thanksgiving flavors, such as cinnamon, clove, apple, pumpkin, and even cranberry.
