Pacsafe Dry is the Water-Resistant Anti-theft Bag that All Travelers Need

There’s never been a better time to be a pickpocket. Today’s average traveler is carrying $1,000 or more in fragile, expensive electronics equipment on their person or in their luggage at all times. Thankfully, modern technology also has a solution: high-tech, protective bags designed to keep your high-tech gadgetry out of the hands of ne’er-do-wells.

The aptly named Pacsafe Dry series aims to protect your valuables on two fronts. First and foremost is theft. The company has built an entire brand around hardcore, anti-theft technology, and the Dry series makes use of its latest and greatest innovations. Like many of Pacsafe’s bags, the heart (literally) of the Dry series is the eXomesh locking system — a chainmail-esque woven steel web that locks down the contents like a soft-sided travel safe.

Simple pickpocketing is thwarted thanks to interlocking zipper pulls and a Roobar Deluxe locking system. Together, these eliminate unwanted bag access by securing each zipper with one lockdown point. Classic “cut & run” style theft is likewise minimized via a Carrysafe slashguard strap that’s wire-reinforced and virtually impossible to cut. The company is also looking to stop the next generation of pickpockets; every bag in the series features RFID-blocking materials in the main pocket to prevent so-called “scan scams.”

The Dry series is also designed with water-resistant features. Sealed seams make use of high-frequency heat welding, and water-repellent zippers all help keep water out. It’s worth noting that the bags aren’t technically waterproof. For example, the 15-liter portable safe scored an IPX6 rating when blasted with a power washer for three minutes. So, short of taking them scuba diving, they should keep your valuables plenty dry through splashes and heavy rain. What’s more, an integrated wet/dry pocket inside the 25-liter and 36-liter bags helps segregate damp items.

Pacsafe’s Dry series will be available in February 2018 directly from Pacsafe.com, starting around $60. The series includes four bag styles: a 4-liter stash bag that can be used on its own or clipped to a larger daypack or backpack; a 15-liter portable safe; a 25-liter backpack; and a 36-liter beach bag. All will be available in Sand, Orange, and Charcoal.
