Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The Music Episode

What new bourbon are we pumped about? Which hiking trail are we exploring? Why is the next supercar so cool? The Manual is dedicated to helping men live a more engaged life. Each week, our editors and guests get together for a round-table discussion about what’s new, exciting, and unique in the men’s lifestyle world. So pop open your favorite brew, step into your man cave, and start streaming.

For this week’s episode of Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The Manual Podcast, we have two very special guests: Joe Page and Sam Alexander from No Kind of Rider, the Portland, Oregon-based band that supplies our intro/outro music. The cast of characters is rounded out by our Food and Drink Editor (and “Spiritual Leader”), Sam Slaughter; our Managing Editor, Nicole Raney; Content Producer Jake Rossman; and the amazing host, Greg Nibler.

We kick off of conversation with Joe and Sam (second and third from the left in the pic above) who tell us a little more about the origins of No Kind of Rider, the music they’re working on, and what it was like to go on the “Oregon Trail” (and lose a couple of band members to dysentery along the way).

Next topic? Music festivals. We love ’em. We hate ’em. But mostly, we want to find out the best ways to sneak in booze so we don’t have to pay $10 for a tall boy. We discuss some of our favorite methods, past failures, and delicious flask recipes.

Every week before the podcast we will put out a poll about our new subject on Facebook and Twitter. Give us a follow and join the conversation! And check out The Manual’s sometimes funky, sometimes hilarious, always awesome themed Spotify playlists here.

As we mentioned, No Kind of Rider supplies the intro/outro music for our podcast. Listen to the full song and music video, which is titled “Distinct,” right below.
