If you have memories of Malibu, the coconut flavored rum, it may well be from ill-advised shots with buddies at late-night bars. But there’s more that you can do with coconut flavors than just drinking it neat or mixing it with coke. If you fancy a throwback to your wilder days paired with a fun Halloween themed treat, then we have four cocktail recipes demonstrating different uses for coconut rum.

You’ll find simple mixes of lemonade and grenadine, as well as a frozen rose slushie that sounds like it would be a hit at any party. Or if you’re feeling the need for some tropical vibes as the weather gets colder, try the ever popular piña colada-themed combo of pineapple and coconut, or the fruity bay breeze which combines sweet rum and pineapple juice with the tart sharpness of cranberry juice.

Dark and moody cocktails for spooky season
Get a deep and dark look for your drinks with these recipes

With the dark night of Halloween coming on, you can have some fun with drinks that are an equally dark hue. Cocktail recipes use ingredients ranging from activated charcoal to plain old food coloring to get an inky appearance, or if you prefer something a little more classic then you can always opt for the traditional dark spirits as a base.

These three cocktails all come in varying flavors of darkness, and you can add some flair and fun to Halloween themed drinks with accessories like skull skewers of toasted marshmallows, pre-smoking a cocktail glass to add a rich smoky note to the flavors, or keeping it simple with the addition of dark flavors like walnut bitters to add some moodiness to your drinks that even the most traditional cocktail fan will enjoy.

Pick from black or red with these colorful Halloween margaritas
Make use of activated charcoal or pomegranite juice to brighten your margaritas
Casa Del Sol.

With Halloween just around the corner, it's time to prepare drinks menus for any parties you have coming up -- and here's one for the margarita lovers. The tequila brand Casa Del Sol from actress Eva Longoria has two recipes for margaritas in seasonal colors of black or bright red, giving a spooky vibe but still being great flavors.

The black version uses activated charcoal to give it its ink blank appearance, which is visually striking but easy to mix for a seasonal sip. There's also black salt for a fancy-looking rim if you can get your hands on it. And the red version incorporates pomegranate juice to give it a bloody hue and to add a sharp and fruity flavor to the combination of tequila and triple sec, with the more traditional regular salt rim plus a handful of pomegranate seeds for an attractive and on theme garnish.
