These Scotch-Infused Desserts are the Perfect Summer Treat

With National Scotch Day coming up (Friday, July 27), we thought it would be a good idea to consume Scotch whisky in a way other than straight. To be fair, we love it that way most of all. It’s just that we like to mix it up every once in a while, which is how we came across Cow Tipping Creamery (CTC), an Austin, Texas-based company that is doing something special for the upcoming day. CTC is doing what they do best (making ice cream) and doing what we do best (adding booze to things … like our mouths). The result of that are delicious Scotch-filled dessert drinks.

Using Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, CTC has devised three different special recipes that will be available for sale only on National Scotch Day. If you’re in Austin, we highly encourage you to head down and pick up one or three of these delectable desserts.

If you can’t make it down to Austin, though, don’t you worry. You can make the delicious treats yourself at home by following the recipes below.

Our favorite is the Whiskey A Go-Go, but all three are pretty chuggable. Just don’t drink them too quickly. No one wants brain freeze while trying to enjoy whisky.

Orange Cream Dream

Monkey Shoulder Orange Cream Dream
Cow Tipping Creamery
  • 1.5 parts Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
  • 6 parts Dublin Orange Dream Soda or other orange soda
  • 1 generous scoop or swirl of CTC ice cream
  • 1 decorative orange peel accent

Method: In a long glass, add a generous scoop or swirl of CTC creamy vanilla soft-serve. Fill glass 3/4 of the way with the orange soda. Top off with Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Garnish with orange peel.

The Doc Is In

Monkey Shoulder Doc Is In
Cow Tipping Creamery
  • 1.5 parts Monkey Shoulder
  • 3 parts Dr. Pepper soda
  • 1 generous scoop or swirl of CTC ice cream
  • 1 glass dipped in CTC Chocolate Dr. Pepper sauce and sprinkled with cracked pepper

Method: Take a chilled old-fashioned whisky glass (short glass) and dip in CTC Chocolate Dr. Pepper sauce. Use a squeeze bottle that’s filled with the DPCS to add more sauce on the rim to get a dripping effect. Sprinkle rim lightly with cracked pepper. Fill the glass over half way with Dr. Pepper soda (100 ml). Add measured amount of Monkey Shoulder whiskey. Add generous scoop or swirl of CTC creamy vanilla soft-serve.

Whiskey A Go-Go Shake

Monkey Shoulder Whisky A Go-Go
Cow Tipping Creamery
  • 2 tbsp Monkey Shoulder
  • 1.5 tbsp malted milk powder
  • 1/8 cup of whole milk (use a smaller amount for a thicker shake)
  • 1 generous amount of CTC Milky Chocolate soft-serve
  • 1 ladle of CTC whiskey walnuts
  • 1 Milkshake cup rimmed with CTC Brown Sugar Hot Fudge

Method: Dip cup to use for shake in Brown Sugar Hot Fudge (a large mason jar would work well). In a blender, add the milk, ice cream, malt powder, and whisky.  Pour into prepared cup. Garnish with a ladle of CTC whiskey walnuts. Use a Tapioca straw.

This is how to make the perfect dirty martini
Making a flavorful dirty martini is surprisingly easy
Dirty martini

The martini is one of the most hallowed classic cocktails, and knowing how to order one correctly is a vital skill whether you make it with gin or you prefer its cousin, the vodka martini. Of the many types of martinis out there, one of the most popular and enduring variations is the dirty martini, where you add a splash of olive brine to the drink to add some salty, dirty flavors.

Sure, it's not the classic way to drink a martini, but there are no rules here, and you can add whatever you like to your drinks. There's even a trend for adding olive ice cubes to a dirty martini, which is sacrilegious to some but appealing to many drinkers.

This carajillo recipe is the perfect coffee cocktail
No worries, this cocktail doesn't have any caffeine
Carajillo cocktail

If you’re a fan of coffee and cocktails, there’s a good chance you’ve tried the carajillo before. Like Irish coffee, this popular Latin American drink is made with a different alcohol base, depending on the country. Cuban drinkers prefer rum, Colombian drinkers enjoy brandy, and Mexican drinkers like coffee liqueur or Licor 43. Regardless of the alcohol used, the drink gets a caffeinated kick from being mixed with coffee (usually espresso).

Unlike the aforementioned Irish coffee, this carajillo coffee cocktail recipe isn’t a hot drink. The espresso or cold brew is made beforehand and mixed with the spirit or liqueur to create a bitter, sweet, delicious cocktail perfect for the cold fall months ahead (and pretty much any chilly evening all year long).

The Apple Jack cocktail is the 2-ingredient drink perfect for fall
This autumn cocktail is a must-have for whiskey and apple fans
Apple Jack

There are a few things synonymous with fall. This includes warm sweaters, famous pumpkin spice, and apples. The orchard fruit is used in almost every dessert dish and drink from September through the holidays. There’s apple cider (hot and spiced or cold), apple brandy, and of course, apple-centric cocktails. The latter is what we’re most interested in today.

And since summer was tiring, we’re not interested in mixing up any elaborate cocktails this fall. That’s why we love the Apple Jack cocktail. There aren’t many autumnal seasonal drinks simpler than this two-ingredient cocktail. To make it, all you need to apple juice and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey. That’s it.
