With National Scotch Day coming up (Friday, July 27), we thought it would be a good idea to consume Scotch whisky in a way other than straight. To be fair, we love it that way most of all. It’s just that we like to mix it up every once in a while, which is how we came across Cow Tipping Creamery (CTC), an Austin, Texas-based company that is doing something special for the upcoming day. CTC is doing what they do best (making ice cream) and doing what we do best (adding booze to things … like our mouths). The result of that are delicious Scotch-filled dessert drinks.
Using Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, CTC has devised three different special recipes that will be available for sale only on National Scotch Day. If you’re in Austin, we highly encourage you to head down and pick up one or three of these delectable desserts.
If you can’t make it down to Austin, though, don’t you worry. You can make the delicious treats yourself at home by following the recipes below.
Our favorite is the Whiskey A Go-Go, but all three are pretty chuggable. Just don’t drink them too quickly. No one wants brain freeze while trying to enjoy whisky.
Orange Cream Dream
- 1.5 parts Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
- 6 parts Dublin Orange Dream Soda or other orange soda
- 1 generous scoop or swirl of CTC ice cream
- 1 decorative orange peel accent
Method: In a long glass, add a generous scoop or swirl of CTC creamy vanilla soft-serve. Fill glass 3/4 of the way with the orange soda. Top off with Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky. Garnish with orange peel.
The Doc Is In
- 1.5 parts Monkey Shoulder
- 3 parts Dr. Pepper soda
- 1 generous scoop or swirl of CTC ice cream
- 1 glass dipped in CTC Chocolate Dr. Pepper sauce and sprinkled with cracked pepper
Method: Take a chilled old-fashioned whisky glass (short glass) and dip in CTC Chocolate Dr. Pepper sauce. Use a squeeze bottle that’s filled with the DPCS to add more sauce on the rim to get a dripping effect. Sprinkle rim lightly with cracked pepper. Fill the glass over half way with Dr. Pepper soda (100 ml). Add measured amount of Monkey Shoulder whiskey. Add generous scoop or swirl of CTC creamy vanilla soft-serve.
Whiskey A Go-Go Shake
- 2 tbsp Monkey Shoulder
- 1.5 tbsp malted milk powder
- 1/8 cup of whole milk (use a smaller amount for a thicker shake)
- 1 generous amount of CTC Milky Chocolate soft-serve
- 1 ladle of CTC whiskey walnuts
- 1 Milkshake cup rimmed with CTC Brown Sugar Hot Fudge
Method: Dip cup to use for shake in Brown Sugar Hot Fudge (a large mason jar would work well). In a blender, add the milk, ice cream, malt powder, and whisky. Pour into prepared cup. Garnish with a ladle of CTC whiskey walnuts. Use a Tapioca straw.
