Why this is my new favorite way to gift coffee to friends and family

The perfect personalized gift for coffee drinkers

coffee on me
On Me / On Me

Last holiday season, I was asked, “Where do I like to get coffee?” My response was pretty simple: “Wherever I can get it.” If I’m near a Starbucks and it’s convenient, I will head to Starbucks. Yet, I’m always excited to explore a local coffee shop if I visit a new city. True coffee lovers don’t want to be locked into one place to grab coffee. Especially for those always on the go, it’s hard to know where we’ll end up and what coffee shop will be nearby.

That’s the problem with traditional coffee gift cards — they lock you into just one coffee shop. But I’ve recently discovered ‘On Me‘ gift cards, which have reimagined how I will give coffee gifts forever. As an avid coffee drinker, I almost always prefer receiving a gift card that gives me a choice over one for one specific shop. On Me is a digital gifting platform that transforms the traditional gift card experience into a modern, personalized journey. Each gift card is tailored to a hobby or interest (for example, the coffee category) that allows you to gift coffee digitally.

Digitally gifting coffee for any occasion

On Me is perfect for gifting coffee digitally for any occasion. Maybe it’s a “just because” gift to remind someone in your life how much they mean to you. Or perhaps it’s to celebrate a special occasion, such as a significant achievement or a milestone. Regardless, there’s no denying that digital gift cards make life easy. You can give the gift without leaving your home, and the recipient can use it easily by adding it to their phone’s wallet. I also love that you can add a personalized message to the gift card e-mail that serves as a card to accompany the gift card.

Additionally, digital gift cards such as On Me help reduce the gift card industry’s environmental impact. Standard gift cards contain an average of 5 grams of plastic, leading to up to 37.5 million pounds of non-biodegradable waste per year (about 3.4 billion single-swipe gift cards were sold in the U.S. in 2021). If you can make a smarter choice for the environment while making life easier for yourself, why not do it?

How gifting coffee with On Me works

On Me’s coffee gift cards are so simple to use, both for the giver and the recipient. The gift card can be used at 30 different in-person or online retailers. Some examples include chain coffee shops like Dunkin’ and Starbucks and online retailers that sell coffee equipment and coffee makers, such as Keurig, Breville, and Nespresso. Here’s what to expect if you’re planning to gift one:

  1. Choose your gift card. While coffee is my personal favorite, there are plenty of other options in food and beverage hobbies, such as brunch or dessert gift cards. There are over 70 different categories to choose from.
  2. Send it through text or e-mail as a gift and include a personalized gift card message.
  3. Allow your recipient to open it and enjoy! Once the recipient opens the email, they are prompted on how to download and retrieve the card. Additionally, I would love it if they could send a thank you note directly through the platform to let you know they loved the gift. You can even include photos, videos, or GIFs in the message, adding a personalized touch different from a regular e-gift card.

Klatch Coffee introduces first-ever coffee made with Milkadamia macadamia milk
Will macadamia nut milk become a 2025 trend?
Klatch Coffee Milkadamia

Southern California coffee roaster Klatch Coffee has launched a new seasonal menu to kick off the new year. Titled "Good for the Body + Soul," their new cafe menu features a selection of freshly-crafted drinks and seasonal eats. On the limited-time menu (available only at locations within Sprouts market) is the brand's first-ever coffee made with Milkadamia macadamia milk: the Macadamia Cookie Latte. Made with Milkadamia non-dairy nut milk, this decadent drink features espresso, white chocolate, and Milkadamia non-dairy milk.

This announcement follows many other coffee shops nationwide that have begun to offer more coffees that use dairy-free and plant-based milk. Milkadamia's "barista" blend is perfect for use in coffee drinks, with a subtle, creamy flavor and ready-to-foam texture. The macadamia nut milk market has rapidly grown recently and is expected to become more  popular, growing at a CAGR of 7.4% from 2024 to 2030.

Study reveals drinking coffee could impact your gut health
How coffee helps your gut
cup of coffee

A recent study published in Nature Microbiology suggests drinking coffee could impact your gut health. This news is timely, as today's consumers have recently begun to pay more attention to lifestyle factors that affect their gut health. The study involved over 22,000 participants from the UK and the United States, which revealed that a specific bacteria, L. asaccharolyticus, was more prevalent in coffee drinkers compared to those who did not drink coffee. This bacteria was found in drinkers of both regular and decaf coffee, which suggests the bacteria present in coffee is not a result of the coffee's caffeine content.

The results of the study found that moderate-to-heavy coffee drinkers contained, on average, about 4.5 to 8 times more production of the bacterium than non-coffee drinkers. This data suggests that coffee may contribute positively to the gut microbiome. While this research is intriguing, the research lacks concise data that suggests what exactly the health benefits of L. asaccharolyticus are. The study was conducted by employees of the company ZOE, which sells prebiotic plant blends. According to the company,  if you’re a coffee drinker, there’s a very high chance you’ve got a thriving population of L. asaccharolyticus in your intestines right now."

Sip on a Cortado from Starbucks’ new winter 2025 menu
The Cortado is the drink of 2025
Starbucks Cortado

Out with the old and in with the new, as Starbucks says goodbye to their holiday menu. Starting today, coffee drinkers can explore the chain's new Winter 2025 menu, featuring the hottest new drink of the year: the Cortado. Made with a 1:1 ratio of espresso and steamed milk, this small yet mighty new drink adds a new order to your espresso beverage rotation. Your Cortado order at Starbucks will consist of three ristretto shots of Blonde Espresso and steamed milk, which are served in a short, eight-ounce cup (available only in a hot cup). Smooth and velvety, this drink packs in a more concentrated flavor than other handcrafted espresso drinks -- thanks to the Ristretto espresso shots.

In addition to the classic Cortado order, the 2025 menu debuts a fun twist on this drink: the Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado. This Cortado is made with the same three Ristretto shots of Starbucks' Blonde Espresso, but also contains brown sugar syrup, cinnamon, and steamed oatmilk, instead of dairy milk. This option is a great order for those who want a dairy-free Cortado or one with an additional hint of sweetness. Many fans are especially excited about the release of the Cortado, as fans have patiently requested this drink in many markets for several months.
