A Stylish Guide to Golfing

We have been feeling the game of golf lately. Maybe it’s the iconic courses in Scotland with serious whiskey bars attached or Jason Dufner’s naughty ass pat when he won the PGA.   Regardless, we have found some brands we would like to share that are bringing a sense of style back to the links.

Golf head covers can go from the ridiculous (R2D2 plushies) to the sublime (monogrammed) so we were happy to hear about Seamus Golf out of Portland. Their fine woolen accessories are made with traditional Scottish clan tartans, Harris Tweed and Pendleton fabrics. They even make the head covers for the Yale golf team and the British Open. Woot! Each cover is hand made and is lined with quick-drying, lightweight industrial outdoor fleece. Seamus has been rolling out some great looking ties too and while we are big fans of tartan, please don’t match your head covers to your outfit.

Another Portland based brand is Jones Sports, which is a 42 year old brand that just got a sweet little polishing up. In 1971 the Jones bag launched to much fanfare as a functional and streamlined bag that was carried by every high school and collegiate golfer for years. The company has always stayed true to its origins and the Original Jones comes with a single strap, signature twisted handle, two zipper ball pouch and exterior umbrella sleeve. There are also limited edition bags rolling out and our favorite is the waxed cotton (dare we say Filson!) bag that looks sharp with your tartan head covers. Just sayin’.

And on the sartorial front, the boys over at Bonobos launched their own line of golf pants back in March called Maide (Gaelic for ‘club’). The collection mixes golf’s traditional fashion with modern silhouettes and fabrications to create a heritage feel. Inspired by the style of golf icons such as Chi Chi Rodriguez and Arnold Palmer, the pants include a unique scorecard print in the pocket liners, grip insert in the waistband to keep your shirt tucked in and a 2” zipper at the hem to allow you to adjust the break of your trouser over your shoe. All in breathable and moveable performance fabric.

Whether you just got a promotion or you are entering the job market for the first time, you could end up running into the phrase "business formal." What is the business formal dress code? What does it mean when they throw that vague phrase at you in a job offer? We can answer that question for you relatively simply: it means to wear a suit. That may sound a little simplistic, and maybe in some ways, but that is the most common definition. On the hierarchy of menswear formality, it is just above cocktail attire and just below black tie. That means that you will be wearing a suit every day, and there are some guidelines for adhering to this dress code in the most attractive way.

Here, we have broken it down in a simple guide.

Snowboarders from Portland, OR make the best base layers for snowboarders
Merino Ninja Suit in yellow

Twenty-one years ago, there was a basement in Portland, Oregon, where the love of a few snowboarders was enough to inspire them to launch a business. Of course, with no prior experience in the tech or the clothing business, it was a tall order. But with only the love of flying down a mountain with a board strapped to his feet and the knowledge of what it takes to give your trip down the mountain the comfort it needs, they launched one of the raddest snowboarding brands on the market. The Airblaster Ninja Suit is the way to keep your personality and your comfort as you enjoy the greatest ride the mountain offers.
Focus on the trip down the mountain

The original Ninja Suit is the one-piece hooded base layer that put Airblaster on the map over two decades ago. It was developed to virtual perfection over the course of nearly 20 years of testing and abuse by our Ninja Ambassadors and Professional Team, which included Leanne Pelosi, Temple Cummins, and Taylor Carlton. If you need a base layer, this is simply the best. Experience the action and fringe benefits of being a Ninja while enjoying the undeniable function (and fashion) of the original Ninja Suit.
