Come January, it’s a traditional for mankind to crave a healthier way of living. After the gluttony of the holidays fades, our minds wander to ambitious exercise regimes, detox diets and our semi-forgotten dust-coated bicycles. Yes indeed, January is the time of year to wipe down your two-wheeled steed and get back on the road – riding off into the sunset optional.

All this good intention is likely to be swiftly followed by the helmet debate; which shape/design/colour should you go for etc, etc. For cyclists wanting to make a statement on the open road, we are loving artistic New York-based brand Belle Helmets.

Belle HelmetsFounded by illustrator Danielle Baskin, the brand specializes in creating sleek helmet designs that are artfully hand-painted in New York. The current vinyl and limited edition collections boast dreamy and idiosyncratic designs that will undoubtedly appeal to cyclists not wanting to compromise style for safety. Some of our favourites include painterly depictions of mahogany woodgrain, paper cranes, circuit boards and a tropical storm.

Though not for the faint-hearted, Belle Helmets designs incorporate art into utilitarian function which is essentially, a really exciting concept. In addition to the current collections, Danielle welcomes bespoke design pitches. So whether you’re into Harry Potter or have a thing for maps, Belle Helmets wants to release your inner geek and send it cycling down the streets.

A cigarette ring that evolved into a ring watch: Meet the Casio CRW-001
The cigarette ring that was redesigned into a ring watch
Casio CRW 001

On its 50th anniversary, Casio stepped outside the conventional box with this new design. The Casio CRW-001 is a modern and contemporary version of a product that was launched in the '40s, a representation of the brand’s evolution over the past few decades. This new ring watch pays tribute to Tadao Kashio’s designs.

It's inspired by a cigarette ring that dates back to 1946. The ring was manufactured in Kashio Seisakujo, and it spread like wildfire in those days. Also known as a yubiwa pipe, the tiny product was worn on the finger as a ring but doubled as a cigarette mount.

Paka revolutionizes outerwear with award-winning upgrade
World's number one alpaca brand elevates outerwear
Paka Parka in the snow

The mountains of Peru are some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. And while they have plenty of vistas for you to take in when you visit, it isn't always the most hospitable. That is why alpaca became a highly regarded fiber in the industry. It is functional enough to keep you warm and mobile in the mountains or in the urban streets. That is also how PAKA became one of the most luxurious brands to come about in the last decade. The original PAKA Apu Parka won the 2023 ISPO Award for its innovation in functionality and traceability, and now the brand has dropped an upgrade for the next level up.

“PAKAFILL has been one of our greatest innovations as a natural fiber brand,” commented Kris Cody, PAKA Founder and CEO. “Up until now, the outerwear industry has relied on mainly two options for insulation: goose down, which requires killing geese, or synthetics, which are derived from fossil fuels. With PAKAFILL®, it’s not only more ethical but also tests warmer than synthetic battings. We’re very proud to take this evolution of outerwear a step further.”
