Early last year, friends Wylie Robinson and Nick Polinko were headed back from a camping trip when their car broke down. Stranded on the side of the road in sub-zero temperatures, they bundled up in all their puffy outdoor gear and sleeping bags and waited for help. As they sat there, huddled together for warmth, they hatched an idea. Why wasn’t there a blanket designed with the same materials as their rugged outdoor gear?
When they finally made it home, the two immediately set off to create a better, more versatile blanket, and a few months later, Rumpl was born.
Designed for outdoorsy types with active lifestyles, Rumpl is a high-performance blanket made from materials developed for the outdoor industry. On the outside, it’s constructed from super-premium 20D, rip-stop nylon with a water-resistant DWR shield. This not only makes it incredibly soft and breathable, but also rugged and tear-proof as well. An invisible DWR coating on the blanket’s exterior also makes Rumpl stain resistant, and prevents odor and bacteria from building up. On the inside, it’s filled with ultralight synthetic down that mimics natural down, but is lighter, extremely compressible, and completely washable.
Robinson and Polinko just closed a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign for the blanket, and are currently working with manufacturers to complete their first production run. You can’t back the project anymore, but pre-orders will open up early February, and you can lock down a one- or two-person size Rumpl for $90 and $110, respectively.
