Where did the Dopp Kit get it’s name you ask? The Dopp Kit name comes from an early 20th century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt, from Chicago,  who created this style of toiletry case in 1919.  Millions of them were issued to American G.I.’s during World War II, after Doppelt landed a contract with the U.S. Army. When soldiers returned stateside, the ‘Dopps’ became a must-have item. But today, they are varied in size, form and style. Here are three:

Called the “Carryall Toiletry Kit”, this durable nylon zip-closure bag has a wide opening at the top for easy to see inside and access to all of its contents without that time consuming rummaging around.  With spill proof pouches and mesh pockets featuring zip-closures, function is key.

Jack Spade

Named the “Swedish M90 Dipped Travel Kit”, it is made of extra-tough CorduraTM. Cordura is known for it’s use in high-end textiles for motorcycle jackets and pants due to its high abrasion resistance and durability.  It is then printed with a distinctive Swedish Army splinter camouflage pattern.  With its fully waterproof lining and contrast, reinforced bottom, this die-cast hardware is custom to Jack Spade.

Bottega Veneta

The Ebano Intrecciato VN Toiletry Case is double-sided intrecciato (braided) VN (Veau Naturel) leather that gives added luxury to this supple toiletry case. It is also very roomy with inside zipper pockets. The name Bottega Veneta means “Venetian atelier” and the company was begun to produce artisanal leather goods. The company’s artisans developed leather-weaving techniques which remain a signature of the brand.

Thanks to the conspicuous materials, this collection plays with color and redefines the conventional way of doing things. Apparently, this is not RM’s first time — the brand has been coming up with new ways of doing things. For instance, RM manufactured an entire casing from sapphire 12 years ago.

We spend a lot of time on the subject of how to dress — wearing the best suits and getting them to fit the right way, making a great first impression by having the highest-quality garments and the best grooming products. But one thing we don't always talk about is taking who you are inside and letting it shine through. Sure, almost every piece of style advice we give here carries with it an element of personal messaging. But there is one way that you can do that without having to overthink it. You can embrace street fashion.

Sneakerheads. Surfers. Skaters. Ballers. There are so many versions of street fashion, or streetwear, depending on how you want to refer to it, that it can get hard to keep them straight. But the crux is that this is defined as anything worn by people in a casual setting, usually representing a subculture they belong to, be it punk rock, hip-hop, skaters and surfers, or athletics. Typically, those who embrace this clothing category are younger (in their 20s) and live in urban areas more than rural ones. But now that social media has taken off, these looks and these subcultures are reaching every corner of the globe.
