High-end outdoor clothiers Patagonia have just launched the recreation of their iconic Snap-T pullover as part of an exclusive capsule collection.
First conceived as a technical fleece three decades ago, the Snap-T has managed to remain a staple thanks to its functionality and silhouette which includes the yoke, pocket shape and contrasting trims.

The idea to update the classic was simple: maintain the key features and beloved style details of the original while pursuing a cleaner line, including a new recycled-nylon fabric with a slight iridescence and recycled wool with subtle, sophisticated colors (61 of them, in fact).
“The original designer, Cyndi Davis, thinks part of the success of the Snap-T was that it was simple, clean, and often came in fun bright colors which were new and unusual at the time,” explains Patagonia Product Line Director, Mark Little. “Its longevity is all probably for the same reasons, there are a lot of other look alike products at lower prices but we have only made the product better, by improving the fabrics, making the construction cleaner and simpler, improving the snaps to a stronger and higher quality. Just consistent quality and beautiful colors.”
The biggest updates are the materials they used to make them: traceable down, recycled polyester, recycled wool, and organic cotton. “Our designers have had fun mashing up different material combinations in the same classic style that has always been a favorite,” says Little. “Leveraging modern fabrics and materials with the original style takes an old classic and makes it new.”
The Snap-T is available in three different styles: the Down Snap-T Pullover (the diamond-quilted, heritage-inspired version), the Cotton Quilted Snap-T Pullover (the down-insulated, wind-resistant, quilted version) and the Reclaimed Wool Snap-T Pullover (the hooded version).
In addition, Patagonia created a timeline chronicling the history of the Snap-T on Patagonia.com.
The entire Fall ’15 Snap-T collection is available in 61 colorways, including 16 prints.
