Happy Memorial Day! Today is a day for cooking out, remembering our troops, and for some of us, dusting off that sartorial season starter- the Seersucker Suit.
Coming into vogue in the 1920’s for the fashionable man (before then it was sported by the British expats in their more humid colonies such as India), the fabric is back in the menswear vernacular more and more recently because of it’s heritage, comfort and wrinkle free ease.
While we fully support donning a seersucker suit all summer, the fabric comes in other forms that we can incorporate into our everyday routine to still lend a summery aesthetic.
Here we have rounded up some of our favorite seersucker items for summer 2013.
J.Crew’s Ludlow Seersucker Suit
We dig this off the rack suit from J.Crew because of its slim fit, Japanese cotton (woven on vintage looms apparently!) and narrow leg. For many years it was hard to find a Seersucker that wasn’t made for a portly Southern lawyer, therefore this one has been greatly appreciated for its modern cut.
Castaway Clothing’s Harbor Pant
This Nantucket based brand has gone rogue and is offering up Seersucker in green and blue, a nice alternative to the usual blue and white combo. If this is too much for you they do offer standard seersucker. Or if you want to really go overboard, there is a lilac version!
Down in Atlanta, Mr. Mashburn owns one of our favorite men’s stores in the States. His selection is always spot on with a little wit thrown in the mix. Here is his Italian Seersucker shirt with a modified spread collar and rounded pocket. This is the perfect shirt to add a little holiday feel to a day at the office or to pair with shorts and hit the lake for a sail.
If you are looking for just a little pop of the fabric, get your hands on this Seersucker belt from Brooks. It’s the perfect addition to the summer wardrobe and a great way to get on board with this trend.
