At the start of a vacation, there’s nothing better than cracking open your hotel room door and seeing your new digs for the very first time.
We love everything about the hotel experience, from lazy morning room service to walking out on the balcony and seeing a swimming pool right in the backyard. Feeling at home is important too, especially when visiting a city. You need a place to unwind and relax after a full day in a bustling metropolis, somewhere that feels familiar rather than sterile or stuffy. Box House Hotel is taking the home-away-from-home concept to the next level.
Situated in a corner of Greenpoint, Brooklyn that simultaneously feels industrial and residential, The Box House Hotel offers an oasis from the hectic energy of NYC. Co-founded by New York natives Joe Torres and Simon Whitley—who both transitioned from a construction background to the hospitality world—Box House is part of a family of hotels that were transformed from factories and warehouses into loft-style accommodations. When you walk into the space, you’re greeted with bright colors and a decor that sits happily between vintage and modern. Every nook and cranny is thoughtful, adorned with a unique antique or piece of contemporary art, commissioned by Brooklyn artist Kip Jacobs. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they’re always quick to greet guests as they come and go.
The rooms are what make Box House particularly special. Large windows flood each loft-style space with natural light, and they’re equipped with all the necessities of a full apartment. Some rooms are designed with nooks or lofts for the comfy queen-size bed while other accommodations have a bedroom or two for a sleeping situation that offers more privacy. Our favorite part of the one bedroom suite that we called home for a weekend was the expansive, private terrace, which was the perfect place to take a morning coffee or evening nightcap. Not only do the rooms have all of the standard amenities like spacious bathrooms and flat screen televisions, each space is equipped with a full kitchen that includes cookware, dishware and utensils. It’s the perfect setup for people who prefer that domestic feeling when they travel.
