You can’t ever be cooler than Salman Agah. You just can’t. Sorry. You loose. Proclaimed Thrasher’s ‘Skater of the Year’ back in 1993 and the most influential skater of the 90s by Trans World he has ridden the wave of awesomeness through to the new millennium and is now the co-owner (with his gorgeous business partner Price) of Pizzanista in downtown Los Angeles (and now Long Beach).
Back in the day Salman was known for doing ‘nollie tricks’ which are like ollies but off the nose of a skateboard. Then he started exploring switch stance, “I just taught myself everything I learned on my regular foot backwards,” he explains. He nailed it and was hailed the ‘Sultan of Switch”. Agah went on to be the ambassador of skateboarding for many companies and traveled the world from South America, Australia, and Europe to Japan for a decade doing demos and interacting with local skaters. He was the first 90s pro skater to get his own signature shoe from Vans.
But today he is a self-proclaimed ‘Big Kid.’ “I am always in search of recreation whether its surfing, skating or traveling with my wife. So whatever I do to make a living goes towards having fun!” he tells us from his poppin’ pizza joint.
We sat down with Salman to talk his personal style from skate to surf to a swank night out with the wife:
When I am skating I go working class. I like Ben Davis because their pants are a cotton/polyester blend that are really rugged and perfect for skating. Since I am sponsored I get great gear from companies who support me. Volcom is one of them and I wear their pants all the time too. For shoes, I wear Vans and usually wear my tee shirt from Black Label Skate.
When I go surfing I wear a wet suit by Hurley. If it is really cold I wear booties from Patagonia. Volcom hooks me up with suits and board shorts. I really like short ones because they look and function better. I mean, if you are going to wear shorts go short! Why do you want to wear half a pant?
When I have a big social event with Price(do you need to say she’s his wife?) I wear Brioni dress shirts. I love the cuts and feel of the fabrics. I have several Zegna suits too. I alternate between classic Brooks Brothers brogues and Wolverine black leather boots.
At the pizza shop, I wear our Pizzanista tees. We have a bunch of different cool prints that I rotate.
Lately, I have been rocking my Stetson hat that was a wedding gift from Price’s family friends since they are all from Texas. I have also been wearing my new Huf Hawaiian print ball cap that says ‘Get Lei’d!
