Adidas Originals X Oyster Holdings’ 2 New Pairs of Kicks Are Streamlined Throwbacks

Adidas Originals has teamed up with Los-Angeles-based lifestyle brand Oyster Holdings for a pair of sneakers with throwback styling dedicated to European terrace culture and heritage. If you’re new to the term “terrace culture,” you’re not alone. The United States, due to its lack of true soccer fandom and appreciation, missed the style memo in the ’80s and ’90s when terrace culture and fashion made its debut. While we were rocking oversized suits and day-glow T-shirts, terrace culture was kicking into high gear across the pond.

Terrace culture references the loud, colorful, and sporty fashions flaunted by soccer fans throughout Europe’s stadiums. To honor that sport-focused, travel-minded collective of international super fans, Oyster Holdings, whose motto is “traveling is a sport,” has brought plainspoken, subtle Adidas sneakers to the masses in the form of the BW Army Sneaker and re-invented the brightly-colored menswear of the day with the Twinstrike Sneaker.

The BW Army Sneaker sports an all-white colorway, an upper made from full grain leather, and a retro-inspired plain-white tongue. Based on the original German Army Trainer, which was a classic in early terrace culture, these all-white kicks are as perfect a pairing with Adidas Originals X Oyster Holdings’ latest apparel collab (think tracksuits) as they are with simple black denim and a white or gray button-up.

The other semi-retro-influenced sneaker from Adidas Originals and Oyster Holdings is this modern iteration of the Twinstrike. Featuring an all-white textile upper with bootie construction (hello, Yeezy styling), a full-grain leather collar overlay and multi-colored pods in the midsole offer up the “progressive features of early 2000s sneaker innovation,” according to the brand. We just think they look bad ass in a first-day-of-Kindergarten throwback sort of way. Wear these with cuffed skinny jeans, long socks, and a T-shirt for that ultimate 1980s terrace culture style.

The Adidas Originals X Oyster Holdings collaboration — both the apparel and footwear — will be available on Friday, September 28, 2018, at both Oyster Holdings and Adidas Originals official websites.

And while the 740 hasn’t seen shelves in a few years, it’s ready to make waves with two refreshes, which look to make an impact with a brand new audience. Along with this release, New Balance and rapper Aminé are gearing up for a collaboration release of the 740 in November. 
New Balance 740 Green Sea Salt

New Balance has introduced more sleek features on the 740 sneakers for this redesign. Starting with the most prominent change, the 740 has simplified the ABZORB midsole to match the rest of the shoe. New reflective panels and contrasting ribbon eyelets are also included.  The shoe is made of a mesh base and green/silver metallic overlays to add a touch of interest to the design. While there’s no mistaking the retro-inspired color combination and design, the 740 is made to cater to modern runners and their needs. The updated 740, priced at $110, will be available via New Balance’s website starting October 16 and in-store at select retailers beginning October 20.
