EFM Engineered For Motion – From Bike to Boardroom

When the holidays hit us each year, we’re on the go from, planes, trains and automobiles. But what about bikes, skateboards, or snowboards? EFM Engineered For Motion, a radically engineered new menswear brand, understands the way we live.

EFM’s designer, Donrad Duncan, is the former principal designer and concept creator of Victorinox/Swiss Army Apparel. With Duncan’s point of view of dressing the urban nomad, his first collection for fall 2014, brings together the items everyman needs. Such as:

  • A classic blue blazer that can fit in the smallest of pocket of your carry-on
  • Chinos that stretch, but still look like selvedge
  • Outerwear with magnetic closures and reflective tape

Donrad understands the engineering and fabrics to make a man’s life better. This combination of how new tech fabrics move, what they weigh, and his tech/tailored vision works well with our busy schedules.

Inspired by the Italian sportswear industry of the 1980’s, and their purist approach in menswear, Donrad collaborates with Trinovation Lab in China, dedicated to the continuous research, experimentation and application of a new generation of manufacturing techniques.

Some of the outerwear pieces from Ducan’s premiere collection, use a lofty wool/nylon that has a comfortable stretch with the feel of cashmere. These are paired with other styles that are constructed of extremely lightweight translucent nylon, which is ideal for packing in luggage or a messenger bag. You’re welcome.

Dan Hobson OOFOS photo

Dan Hobson knows footwear design. After obtaining an industrial design degree from Syracuse University, he’s had a 25-year career designing innovative running shoes, workout shoes, and even NASA boots. In 2022, he joined OOFOS as Head of Product Design and soon began work on the company’s newest creation, the OOmy Stride.

OOFOS makes footwear to help athletes recover. With a patented footbed and science-backed OOfoam, the company’s products absorb impact and encourage blood flow, speeding up the recovery process. Though known for its slides and sandals, OOFOS enters new territory with the OOmy Stride, which focuses on movement and active recovery.

The Normal Brand speaks from the Midwest with FW24
Flannels, sweaters, and layering essentials
Man in fleece lined jacket from Normal Brand

If you go to London and want to have a clothing shopping spree, you will make a list that starts with Burberry, Barbour, and Huntsman. All Quintessential brands began in the city. If you go to New York, you will likely visit Calvin Klien or Ralph Lauren. Los Angeles will whet your appetite for Buck Mason or Hurley. When you see a place, you will find the brands that represent them, the ones that simply understand the people around them and the feel of the region. While those brands are famous in their cities and are globally well known, the Midwest is a region larger than all of them and a brand has emerged as the king of the area. The Normal Brand, started in St. Louis by a trio of brothers, discovered the spirit of the Midwest and has launched a fall and winter 2024 collection that solidifies them as the king of the region.
Midwest staples lead the way

If you have ever been to the Midwest in the fall and winter, you will notice a few staples and items needed for your survival in the flyover states. Flannel is a must, partially because it is warm and the midwest gets quite cold, and partly because it is a men's must. Sweaters are the go-to on a fall day because it isn't quite cold enough to let go of the coatless weather, but they have long since waved goodbye to the shorts and tee. And layering essentials because if you don't like the weather in the Midwest, wait five minutes. The Normal Brand's FW24 is another treasure trove of flannels, with a standout being the Textured Knit Shirt, jackets like the Sherpa Collar Jacket in Chestnut Buffalo, and sweaters led by the Seawool Nep Crew.

Red Wing Heritage and Engineered Garments transform the Oxford into a streetwear shoe
New Red Wing Heritage Oxford shoe
model wearing black pants and black loafers

On its own, Red Wing Heritage’s Irish Setter Oxford shoe is a classic and timeless model that has served as the perfect dress shoe for ages. While there’s no beating the luxury and sophistication of a traditional black Oxford, their latest collaboration is a subtle spin that brings the design into a new era. Along with Engineered Garments, Red Wing Heritage has revived its famed style with the Triple Black Irish Setter, an Oxford shoe for modern times. Just as the name reveals, this design brings in three different black materials to create a subtle contrast that’s just enough to add flair to a traditional shoe. While it may not seem drastically different from a black Oxford, the slight change between materials and the quality behind the craftsmanship is a one-of-a-kind, contemporary yet timeless detail.
Engineered Garments x Redwing - Irish Setter

The Irish Setter Oxford shoe from Red Wing was already a classic piece that could easily serve in various situations. With this new release, both brands looked to create versatility with an updated look. Using Chrome, Abilene Roughout, and Harness black leather in the design, the shoe showcases a different texture at every turn. The unique texture and feel of each piece of leather gives the shoe a refreshed feel, instead of the same traditional leather Oxford you can find. Although the outside has a more modern feel, the inside is still equipped with the stability and comfort you’ve come to expect from Red Wing and Engineered Garments. A sleek black monochrome option, this luxurious Oxford is the perfect blend of timeless design with modern detailing. This Oxford shoe retails for $460 and is available via Nepenthes NY’s website and locations.
