Maven Watches Uses Marble and Natural Landscapes to Fuel its Startup

To launch into the (crowded) business of watches — an esteemed industry, to say the least — entrepreneurs need to offer something wholly unique.

That is, a new company needs to offer a product that’s either entirely original or less expensive than what’s available. In the case of Maven Watches, a Hong Kong-based timepiece startup, this distinct variation lies with its embrace of minimal, modern style. While there certainly exist a bevy of watch brands which lean on a minimal and modern style, Maven’s two flagship styles — the Enduring and Artisan Series — cling to these genres in a way that quickly sets them apart from the pack.

For its Enduring Series, Maven turned to the use of elegant marble to give the watch a bona fide pop. With each chosen marble stone featuring a unique birthmark, it’s an absolute fact no two Enduring Series watches will ever be the same. No only does this give Maven’s Enduring an unmatched lasting quality but it also allows the timepiece to be a true statement of personal style. Featuring an interchangeable Italian leather band and Rose Gold-colored stainless steel crowns, case backs, and buckles, it’s perfect for dressing up or going casual.

While the Enduring’s marble watch face serves as its declaration of character, Maven’s Artisan Series leans on inspiration from modern architecture and natural landscapes. Yet another take on minimalist style, the Artisan Series features a simple analog watch face adorned in a pleasant color tone that allows the wearer to match it with a wide variety of apparel. Outfit with an Italian leather band (of which is also interchangeable) and the same stainless steel crown, case back, and buckle, the Artisan Series also utilizes a Swiss Ronda movement — a high-quality quartz timepiece movement.

Perhaps the one thing holding Maven back from completely taking the watch industry by storm is the fact the brand has yet to even launch. With an Indiegogo campaign scheduled to go live in February, it’s only a matter of time before this classically-styled brand makes a fashionable name for itself. At the heart of the company is a team of entrepreneurs and designers who’ve remained keenly focused on manufacturing a watch that’s not only aesthetically pleasing but scores highly in terms of durability and craftsmanship.

Though Maven has remained mum on an exact launch date of its crowdfunding campaign, the brand does allow interested buyers the ability to input their email address for updates. If the finished product proves capable of replicating the impeccable style and character of its initial announcement, it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising to see its run on Indiegogo end as a roaring success.

Harry Winston Ocean Date Moon Phase Automatic Rose Gold

When someone says they're looking for a "luxury watch" we can imagine the Harry Winston Ocean Date Moon Phase Automatic 42mm Rose Gold Limited Edition as being what they envision in their mind. This watch, truly the epitome of high-end is made with 18K rose gold and features a gem-set dial, bezel, and bracelet all adorned with sparkling diamonds. On this watch is a moon phase display along with the date, hours, and minutes arranged in an asymmetrical layout through overlapping registers. Each of the 978 diamonds was very obviously applied to the watch with the utmost precision rather than just being thrown on there simply for aesthetics. If exclusivity is your thing, you'll be happy to hear that only 5 of these are available.

MING 37.09 Bluefin watch

Having a MING watch can certainly be a conversation starter at a dinner party, and though it won't draw the same attention on the street as, say, a Rolex Daytona or the newest TAG Heuer, it's unique, and that counts for something. MING famously pushes the boundaries; for example, they debuted the "world's lightest watch" in October 2023. What they aren't known for is dive watches, so in sticking to their usual mission of surprising us all, that's exactly what they've made.
MING introduces the 37.09 Bluefin watch

MING has made two dive watches in the past: the 2019 18.01 Abyss Concept and the 2020 18.01 H41 Titanium. Now, they've introduced the 37.09 Bluefin, a watch that is so sleek it will show up next to that word in the dictionary. Looking at press photos for this watch as it's being put into the water is like eating peanut butter and jelly; it just fits.
Getting the "crush depth" just right
Another thing a MING watch is known for is being almost like a science experiment, and when the brand came up with the new 37.09 Bluefin it was revealed they made all kinds of small adjustments to get its "crush depth" just right. According to MING, they aimed to enhance the technical features of the H41 dive watch but were limited due to the exceptionally small 19mm case size. Rather than pushing ahead with a bigger watch, they prioritized the more slender appearance.

Citizen Layers of Time collection

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Citizen watches, and what better way to commemorate the momentous occasion than with a limited edition capsule collection? It's basically the cake and candles of the watch industry. The Japanese brand has unveiled five models that draw inspiration from the rocks and minerals that formed the Earth several million years ago in a geological evolution.
Citizen watches: The Layers of Time collection

Each of the 5 Citizen watches features an Eco-Drive solar mechanism, with transparent dials and a very noticeable special ink developed along with the Fujifilm Corporation that gives them a surprisingly extraterrestrial vibe despite the fact that they represent our own planet. The Layers of Time collection takes inspiration in its design from geological formations and the natural beauty of the Earth's layers, giving rise to the organic patterns and textures you would find in rocks, minerals, and fossils.

The Citizen Attesa Layers of Time Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS CC4057-60E features a case and bracelet made from incredibly durable Super Titanium alloy, made even better with a black Duratect finish. It's one of the more beastly watches in the new collection as its case measures 44.6mm in diameter and 15.4mm in thickness, and it's water resistant up to 100 meters. This watch has a bezel adorned with a gradient finish, echoing the colors in the dial, and it's powered by the Caliber F950 Eco-Drive movement, famous for its self-sustaining capabilities in any light.
