North Street Bags is something of an outlier in the bag-production world. Not only do they try to source all their materials within the United States, but they go the extra mile and make every attempt to get their fabrics, trim, and hardware parts specifically from the Pacific Northwest. And, if that wasn’t good enough, they also imagine, design, and build all of their backpacks, duffels, totes, and bike panniers in small batches in their Portland, Oregon, production facility.
By building every bag in-house and sourcing the components locally and from elsewhere in United States, the folks at North St. can guarantee a quicker turnaround and adapt to customer needs on the fly. It also keeps costs low, since they don’t have to deal with wasteful transportation, excess inventory, and long-term commitments that are likely to arise when sourcing overseas.

Kiriko Made, another Portland-based brand, focuses on creating unique garments and accessories out of vintage fabrics and denims sourced directly from Japan. The Manual is proud to say our very first collaboration was with Kiriko Made a little over three years ago.

The lightweight daypack features a roll-top closure, waterproof drop liner made of sailcloth, and an exterior of 1000 percent denier Cordura nylon. The uniquely patterned Kiriko Made fabric is featured prominently on the exposed portion of the pack, adding a flash of visual interest and style swerve not often seen in built-to-last backpacks.
