Although many recent collaboration campaigns tend to focus on sneakers and their co-creators, that doesn’t mean they can’t be a bit brazen. While Sneaker Politics x ASICS’s newest sneaker is more than enough to marve at, their cheeky promotional campaign is turning heads. Under the title “Just Say No”, the latest sneaker is inspired by the infamous ’80s campaign heralded by the Reagan administration to combat drug usage. Although the campaign doesn’t directly mention its inspiration by name, details spread through the sneaker are enough to draw a connection. Apart from poking fun at the failed “Just Say No’ drug campaign, Sneaker Politics and ASICS have created an equally bold sneaker that meshes the brand’s performance features with style details.

Reimagining ASICS’ famous Gel-Kayano 14 model, Sneaker Politics and ASICS’ new campaign is more than just its bold inspiration. Created with a white mesh base adorned with gold, silver, and red overlays, the Gel-Kayano 14 infuses pops of color with its sturdy silhouette for its new release. A yellow midsole and the red Gel units it houses also create a contrasting effect. The red insole is decorated with a subtle hemp pattern, further alluding to its creative marketing. While the promotional campaign is enough to draw attention, the sleek and stylish design makes the sneaker a worthwhile addition to your wardrobe. The Sneaker Politics x ASICS sneaker is set to release via Sneaker Politics locations on March 8 for $170 on a first come, first serve basis. An online raffle is also open for those looking to try their luck via the boutique’s website. Any available pairs will be sold via the Sneaker Politics website on March 10.

It’s no surprise designers and brands often get inspiration for their designs in the most unexpected places. Not long ago, New Balance released mushroom-inspired sneakers that ultimately took their inspiration to the next level. With more brands looking into the distance for their next release, ASICS and Lack of Guidance are headed to the pitch for their latest release. Based on Japan’s 1998 home goalkeeper jersey, these brands want to add a bold and distinguishable shoe to your closet. At the time, this jersey was also created by ASICS, making it one of the brand’s most iconic kits in the sport.  While Lack of Guidance is renowned for using football inspiration throughout their pieces, the latest collaborative sneaker with ASICS takes a classic retro print to a new level.

Birdwell gets 80s punk rock with surfing legend Matt Archbold
Legendary surfer Matt Archbold collabs with Birdwell
Tube Select

If you grew up in the '80s and the '90s, you undoubtedly know that surfers were a clean-cut crew back then. Sure, their hair was long and bleached by the sun, but they had a very distinct culture that wasn't aligned with today's love of tattoos. Well, Matt Archbold changed all of that and paved the way by going a bit more punk rock and rebelling against the entire culture. Not only that, but he was an insanely talented surfer who charged hard at waves others avoided. After a hard life of substance abuse going along with his punk lifestyle, he cleaned himself up and opened Archy's Garage, a niche shop for true lovers of the sport and the culture. Although he shut it down to move to Hawaii, he is back and relaunched it. Now collaborating with Birdwell, he has a set of products perfect for the love of the sport.

“Growing up, I was always inspired by Matt Archbold and the way he pushed the limits of surfing with his style, both in and out of the water. It’s been amazing to bring together Birdwell’s legacy of making the world’s best boardshorts with the timeless performance and custom culture of Archy’s Garage,” said Eric Crane, CEO of Birdwell. “The product is incredible, and the feedback has been just as great. We’re proud to team up with someone like Matt, who’s still shredding in his 50s!”
