We really love clothing and style here at The Manual. And though we think much of it is great, whether it’s a brand that gives back or just a piece that’s made exceptionally well, it’s not often we’re amazed. Not because we don’t think there are a ton of amazing brands and designers out there, but because not a whole lot seems new in the age of the internet. So to our pleasant surprise, Threadsmiths was able to shock us with one of the most basic pieces of clothing in the world – a plain white tee.

Before you call us crazy, this isn’t just any white tee. Created by Melbourne technology apparel company Threadsmiths, this is the world’s first 100% cotton, fully hydrophobic t-shirt. Named The Cavalier, it’s designed with a new “water-fearing” nanotechnology that completely repels dirt and liquids, leaving the fabric dry and stain-free. Rather than soaking into the fabric, the shirt’s properties cause liquids to bead and roll off the fabric. Yes, we were skeptical at first too, but you have to see it in action to believe it. Check out the video demonstration below.

Threadsmiths didn’t create the first hydrophobic technology in the world, but they did create the best. Historically, it has been synthesized into a spray-on aerosol treatment that destroys fabrics and contains carcinogenic chemicals. But their patented fabric nanotechnology is free of nasty chemicals and completely safe for regular wear, which is why Threadsmiths hopes to work with designers to develop clothing for the medical, sports and hospitality industries.

Until then, we can make good use of the time by picking up some of the winter shirts for men.

We can use them for a little bit of motivation. Some excitement to get us through to Opening Day of the baseball season. That's why we looked at some of our favorite brands and put together some of our favorite sweaters, button-ups, and polos for the cold weather. Here's to a couple more months until the sunshine.
