Celebrate Christmas with the Carlyle Punch! For those of you who don’t know, the Carlyle is an iconic Upper East Side hotel in New York. It became known as the New York White House during President John F. Kennedy’s administration and he was even rumored to have brought Marilyn Monroe there after she famously sung Happy Birthday to him. Mick Jagger even keeps a residence there. If you watched Bill Murray’s Netflix Christmas special, “A Very Murray Christmas,” it’s the beautiful hotel where the whole thing takes place. It’s one of the most glamorous spots in the entire city. So why not celebrate Christmas with a famous libation from one of New York’s most celebrated hotels?

Simply gather up Southern Comfort, raspberry vodka, cranberry juice, St. Germain, orange juice, bitters, and a few other things, and mix it all up in one giant punch bowl. Your holiday guests will be pleased, especially since they know they don’t have to travel all the way to New York to get a seat in Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle, to have a sip of this famed holiday cocktail. All you have to do is head to your local liquor store, pick up Southern Comfort, raspberry vodka and St. Germain, then get everything else, and you can picture yourself in New York to celebrate the holidays. But if you want to do individual drinks for each person, you can still do so without too much difficulty if you stick to more simple cocktails.

That's the recommendation we have for you today, with easy to make cocktails that embrace the festive spirit. These are based on offerings from Redemption Whiskey, makers of a rye whiskey which is one of our favorites thanks to its spicy-sweet flavors and peppery, citrusy notes. Whether you're going all-out for Halloween with spiderwebs everywhere and a house full of sweets, or whether you'd rather have a low-key affair and share a few casual drinks with some friends, a great way to enjoy tasty cocktails without the stress is to make batched drinks. You can mix everything up before any guests arrive, then let people serve themselves for a low-stress way to ensure everyone gets a drink.

The key to a good batched drink is to get the proportions right, as these will often use more fruit juices and other mixers as they typically contain less ice than a shaken or stirred cocktail. And the other key is to pick flavors that are easy to drink and will be widely enjoyed. Unless your friends have very particular (and very similar) tastes, this is not the time for hot and spicy margaritas, powerfully bitter negronis, or dangerously boozy martinis. Pick something fruity and on the sweeter end, as this tends to be more amenable to a wider range of people, and you'll have a better chance of pleasing everyone's palate.
