What new bourbon are we pumped about? Which hiking trail are we exploring? Why is the next supercar so cool? The Manual is dedicated to helping men live a more engaged life. Each week, our editors and guests get together for a round-table discussion about what’s new, exciting, and unique in the men’s lifestyle world. So pop open your favorite brew, step into your man cave, and start streaming.
For this week’s episode of Beards, Booze, and Bacon: The Manual Podcast, our round-table consisting of Food and Drink Editor Sam Slaughter; Associate Editor of LifestyleChase McPeak; and ever affable host Greg Nibler talk Mother’s Day.
The gang begins the podcast with a rundown of different gift-buying options for moms. First, a look into the different types of mothers out there and the specific gifts to buy for their personalities. Examples include the “fashion forward matriarch,” the “zen mama” and the “food mom.” Gifts include jewelry (though not recommended by Chase), sweet treats, a year’s worth of flowers, and more.
Also up for discussion are alternatives to physical gifts, such as taking your mom on a small trip or vacation, helping her out around the house with chores or lawn work, and taking her out to brunch or dinner (just make sure to have prior reservations).
If going out to eat isn’t in the cards, Sam suggest making a quick, delicious, light brunch at home instead, followed by a whole helping of cocktails to wash it down with. From the Kentucky Pick Me-Up to the “Mam” Knows Best to the Aviation Champagne Punch, there’s sure a drink to please every mom. So raise a glass to her, the one who gave you life or helped you through it —she’s earned it.
